Based on thousands of donations as small as $1 per pay period, IPC Cares reached $1 million in total Employee donations at the conclusion of 2009. IPC Cares was created in January 2001 with all contributions going to support children's charities, primarily, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
"Raising $1 million is a tremendous milestone, and I am deeply grateful to our employees for their generosity and compassion," said Robert Nutt, IPC's Chief Financial Officer who also serves as Chairman of IPC Cares. "On behalf of our entire organization, I cannot be more thrilled about the way our employees over the past nine years have supported IPC Cares and the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This is a devastating disease afflicting young boys and their families across the country. The money raised by IPC Employees has made a positive difference in the lives of these boys and their families."
In addition to the support of IPC Employee contributions, employees have donated their time and efforts to hold numerous fundraising events to support the PPMD organization.
"It's important to note that these employee contributions are above and beyond our corporate contribution" continued Nutt.
The money raised by Employees has been used to support a number of activities sponsored by PPMD, including: a fellowship at the University of Washington that has been established to look at a potential therapy for Duchene muscular dystrophy, A University of Pennsylvania study of large animal therapeutics, and two separate studies at UCLA and one at the University of Florida. These are just a few of the many research projects devoted to understanding this illness and ultimately finding a cure.
"Here at IPC International, we talk about the Power of $1, and you can see how every level of giving adds up," said Howard L. Kaplan, President and CEO. "The contribution of our people to IPC Cares has been remarkable from day one, and it continues to grow. Our organization is made up of great people, but achieving something like this makes me especially proud."
IPC Cares was established as a volunteer program exclusively for IPC International Employees who have since embraced the program.
